Supporting Poor Families in Times of Need

Jan Chetna Manch Bokaro (JCMB) provides vital subsidies to poor families in times of need, especially for medical care. Each year, 25% of all people accessing our healthcare services receive subsidies for pregnancy and childbirth, pre-term baby care and mental health treatment. Notably, 50% of these subsidies are dedicated to the care of pre-term babies. We invite you to support our cause by donating to the JCMB fund.

Together, we can make a difference.

Our Story

Founded in the mid-80s by local students, villagers, and teachers, Jan Chetna Manch, Bokaro began with a mission to empower rural youth through education. Over the years, our focus expanded to address pressing social issues such as dowry, lack of education, healthcare disparities, and environmental degradation.

By the early 90s, we transitioned from advocacy to action. Concerned with land degradation, we initiated a sustainable reclamation project, planting trees and vegetables on barren uplands. Our efforts garnered support from local industries, enabling us to establish a successful plant nursery.

In 1994, Jan Chetna Manch, Bokaro was formally registered as a society, paving the way for broader community impact. By the mid-90s, our commitment to empowering women led to the formation of self-help groups and the establishment of the first women’s health centre in 1997.

Located in Koromtanr village, 25 km from Bokaro Steel City, the ‘Chetna Women’s Health Centre,’ embodies Jan Chetna Manch commitment to women’s health. Established in 1997, the centre initially operated from rented rooms before moving to its own facility in Chamrabad in 2001, which was built with government funds. In 2015, with community support, JCMB started to build a new, eco-friendly centre in Koromtanr, funded by donations and utilising innovative construction methods.
