Community Health

Jan Chetna Manch, Bokaro has trained a team of village-based health guides – swasthya sakhis –and Community Health Workers to help improve the health of families in their villages. These CHWs visit the villages each month, and the households of women during pregnancy; post delivery; children suffering from acute malnutrition and villagers suffering from various mental health problems.

These CHWs visit these households along with the swasthya sakhi, who is a woman residing in the village, and has been selected by the women’s self help group to serve their health needs. The CHWs and the swasthya sakhis are the link between the family, community and the health care system, including the Women’s Health Centre.
